Roof renovation is a low cost alternative to roof replacement that both protects and restores the integrity of your roof tiles.
Over time your roof will suffer from the effects of rain, frost and sun which cause damage to your roof tiles. Due to roof tiles being made of porous building materials, eventually the tile will start to breakdown and no longer protect your home.
Porous tiles absorb water, once wet they provide the ideal breeding ground for plants such as moss, lichen and once waterlogged become covered in algae.
In turn the flow rate of water from your roof can slow down, and your guttering systems and drainage can become blocked from the falling moss, not to mention the mess on paths and driveways.
In sub zero conditions the water inside your tiles, freezes and expands which leads to small cracks and eventually the tile may suffer from a structural failure, a full length crack or, start to crumble. This leads to water penetrating into your home. Damp homes encourage the growth of mould, which can be bad for your health.
At Renovize Homes, we offer a four stage professional roof renovation service that will clean, treat and protect your roof tiles. This will not only help extend the roofs lifespan but can help to reduce surface erosion of the tiles.
Our process starts with a thorough clean of the tiles using a high pressure cleaner producing up to 4000psi.
Secondly we treat the tiles with an anti-fungal biocide to remove any biological contaminants, inhibiting the return of moss, lichen and algae.
Your roof renovation continues with the repair stage, where we remove all cracked, broken or unserviceable tiles and replace them with a new tile. In the case of a historic building or very old roof with Kent peg tiles, will will source and use serviceable reclaimed tiles that are individually checked, inspected and cleaned prior to replacement.
We undertake repointing of hips, ridges and gable ends where its required, even the chimney if necessary. We also replace and/or re-seat hips, bonnets and ridges, repair or reline gullies and replace lead flashing where it is needed.
After the repairs we complete your roof renovation by applying an eco-friendly protective product. Its purpose is to provide long term protection from the weather, and waterproofs the tiles. Since the roof tiles are dry, moss, lichen and algae are inhibited from regrowing.
If the roof we are renovating is of a clay or slate roof tile we use a specialised product that does not change the colour nor the appearance of the tile, Ideal for use on historic or grade listed buildings or in conservation areas.
For a concrete tiled roof we use a product that can restore the colour and provide the roof with the long term protection too, giving your home the new roof look. Some of our clients even choose to change the colour of their tiles.
Many products, such as roof paints contain plasticisers. If applied to a roof, the tiles are sealed and prevented from breathing. All moisture in the tile is trapped and condensation will occur, this results in damp conditions, mould and could lead in the long term to timbers rotting.
We have therefore researched the market in depth to source our protective treatments. The products we use are superhydrophobic, which means there are waterproof and breathable at the same time. They are APEO free (no plasticisers) and eco friendly.
The manufacturers provide a minimum of 10 years guarantee, although the life expectancy is 15 to 20 years. Renovize Homes also offer our 10 year guarantee.
As approved installers of the product we use, we are in the unique position as we are the only company in the U.K. that can provide an insurance backed guarantee for the installation of the product from GGFi. This guarantees the products performance for the minimum of 10 years along with the workmanship for its preparation and application.
Our roof renovation service not only improves the look of your home, but it will also save you money by reducing your property maintenance cost and preventing the need for a roof replacement, giving you total peace of mind.
