HOME IMPROVEMENT GUIDELINES FOR WINTER

With the harsh winter days upon us, there are quite a few months where things will need to be kept in check if you want to be able to keep your home warm and comfortable, so there are a few preparations you need to watch out for to make it happen. Ways to cut the energy consumption rates for your home and to keep it clean while you enjoy your life during the winter. The following tips will give you a few ideas you can focus on to keep your home warm and safe:

Wall sealing

One way to ensure you will keep heat from escaping your home is to make sure you have the right insulation done before the big day. You will need to focus on some of the problem areas around your home, as chances are even yours has them just like any other. Weak points where insulation has eroded in time or possibly it was never there to begin with and so forth will call for such a solution. An infrared thermometer will allow you to spot any problem areas to deal with in the long run. The tool will allow you to spot the problem areas with ease, which can then be noted and dealt with as you go. They may be in hard to reach areas, ones where you may need to deal with quite a bit of renovation and cleaning afterwards, so you would do well to be prepared for floor cleaning, upholstery cleaning, you name it – remember to cover all your nearby furniture if you need to deal with problems on the inside.

The importance of windows

This is something you would do well to notice, as a large percentage of the heat loss of a home happens through poorly insulated windows. Unless yours have at least double insulation, better yet a triple insulation with insulated glazing, then you will likely lose quite a bit of heat during the winter season. This is one proven fact that makes money spent on proper new window panes a great investment if you want to keep your home warm. It will take quite a bit of work, so this would be a task best reserved for warmer times, but regardless you would do well to keep this in mind when you work on your preparations and home improvement plans when winter ends. This will allow you to reduce your power bill and get things in order as you prepare yourself for the next winter and the hot days of summer as well.

Locating and dealing with insulation

gaps

Whenever you have something that passes through the walls, such as cables, tubes, pipes and the like, chances are you have a point where your insulation has weakened due to this loss of structural integrity at that point. You will need to do your best to fix the issue as fast as possible if you want to keep the power bill down and your home nice and hot during the cold winter days. You can fix most of the issues with expanding foam, as it will block off the hole and it will allow you a seamless fit, but you would do well to avoid using it near a gas source, as the foam is flammable. You would also do well to remember that the foam itself is quite unpleasant to clean, so do your best and avoid dealing with extensive carpet cleaning or wall cleaning and be careful.
